I have a credit card which gives frequent flyer miles. I receive 1 point for each dollar spent. Points are accumulated yearly but do not carry over from calendar year to year. Miles/points may only be redeemed if they total 100 points or more. I only use my credit card for emergencies so I used it once all year to buy gas which cost $12 and then I kept the card in my wallet for the remainder of the year. My miles/points total 12 but equal zero because the balance is under 100 points
